Protecting Your Vision from AMD
Protecting your vision starts with understanding age-related macular degeneration (AMD). AMD is one of the leading causes of vision loss in adults over 50, and it affects the macula, the part of your eye that helps you see fine details.
Over time, this condition can make daily tasks like reading, driving, or recognizing faces more challenging. Because AMD often develops gradually, many people do not notice symptoms until changes in vision become significant.
The good news is that early detection makes a real difference. At Eye Sea Davis Optometry, we use modern technology to spot AMD in its earliest stages and provide ongoing management tailored to your needs.
Take control of your vision today. Book an appointment with Eye Sea Davis Optometry and let our team help you protect your sight for the years ahead.

Why Early Detection Matters
While there is currently no cure for AMD, early detection and management can make a meaningful difference. Identifying signs of AMD early gives you more options for protecting your vision and slowing progression.
Regular eye exams are essential, especially if you are over the age of 50 or have a family history of the condition.

Understanding Age-Related Macular Degeneration
Age-related macular degeneration, often called AMD, is an eye condition that affects the macula, the central part of your retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. Over time, AMD can make it difficult to see clearly when reading, driving, or recognizing faces.
It is one of the leading causes of vision loss in adults over 50, but with regular eye exams, it can be detected and monitored early.
There are 2 main forms of age-related macular degeneration:
- Dry AMD: Dry AMD is the most common type. It develops gradually as the macula thins and tiny deposits called drusen build up. Vision changes may be subtle at first, but over time, dry AMD can lead to significant central vision loss.
- Wet AMD: Wet AMD is less common but more serious. It occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow under the retina and leak fluid or blood. This can cause rapid and severe vision loss if not treated promptly.
Because AMD often progresses slowly and without obvious symptoms in its early stages, many people do not realize they have it until vision is noticeably affected.
At Eye Sea Davis, we use advanced technology, including Optos imaging, iCare, visual field testing, OCT scans, and AdaptDx to detect even the earliest signs of macular changes. Regular testing allows us to track your eye health over time and provide personalized recommendations for ongoing management.
Our Diagnostic Testing Technology
Our team uses different diagnostic tools to assess your eye health and check for early signs of AMD:
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) creates detailed cross-sectional images of your retina, allowing us to detect even subtle changes.
- Optos Imaging provides widefield retinal images to help us examine your macula in detail.
- iCare Tonometry allows us to measure eye pressure comfortably, giving us more insight into your overall eye health.
- Visual Field Testing checks for changes in peripheral vision that may indicate disease progression.
- AdaptDX measures your retina’s dark adaptation, helping detect early signs of age-related macular degeneration.
- Corneal Topography maps the surface of your cornea, aiding in the detection of irregularities and supporting custom contact lens fittings

Personalized AMD Management
If we detect signs of AMD, our team will work with you to create a care plan that supports your eye health and daily life. This may include monitoring your condition with regular testing, discussing lifestyle adjustments, and coordinating with specialists when needed.

Dr. Gaganjot Virk was incredibly kind and helpful! I received a thorough eye checkup and finally understood the actual issue with my eyes. Everything about my appointment was perfect: the staff was ready for me when I arrived. They helped me navigate the digital documents and expertly took me through all the testing even while orienting a new employee. Most importantly, Dr Virk was so pleasant & made me feel comfortable immediately. She listened to my concerns & collaborated with me to come up with an amazing remedy! I can see so well now.

I’ve been doing my post Lasik appointments here and they’ve been amazing! The doctor walked me through how to better take care of my lash extensions and answered a ton of other questions. And they always see me right away at my appointment time (which hasn’t been the case at any other eye doctors I’ve been to in the last decade). Would definitely recommend!
